Welcome to Alzheimer’s Outreach Center!

What is Alzheimer’s Adult Day Care?

Our organization was started in 1988 to provide a quality daycare and in-home respite program. We offer activities and experiences to promote maximum functioning capacity of  persons suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease and other types of Dementia.

This  program is partially operated under a grant through the SOWEGA Council on Aging to fund the nine-member staff of Alzheimer’s Outreach Center and other program expenses.  First United Methodist Church provides our facilities and assists with part of the administrative costs of the program. Several other local churches contribute to the program as well.

What Service do we provide?

  • Alzheimer’s Outreach Center is used to relieve the caregiver of his or her duties for the day while ensuring that the care recipient will still receive the proper care in a safe, friendly environment.

  • In-home Respite Care for caregivers who a providing care to people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease or a related dementia.

  • Support Group for caregivers who are providing care to someone who is diagnosed with dementia.

  • Community education for individuals and groups who want to know what dementia is and how to deal with it.

How can Alzheimer’s Outreach Center help you?

We provide Adult Day Care for those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease or a related Dementia.  Participants may come 5 days a week, Monday through Friday, from 10am until 3pm.  The caregiver can have peace of mind that their loved one is in good hands and will have fun with a variety of games and activities.  Some activities in the daily program includes arts and crafts, exercises like chair aerobics, reminiscence therapy, games such as balloon volleyball , music and singing. Our center has a well-trained staff and approximately 25 volunteers to assist and motivate the clients throughout the daily activities.

Lunch and snacks are prepared by Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital to meet the dietary needs of the clients and served at our center. There is a minimal cost of $2.50 per day.

We also have certified nursing assistants supervised by a registered nurse available for in-home care one or two times per week to assist with personal care needs and activities of daily living.
